Golden Teachers Magic Mushrooms

Alicia anisopetala (or possibly A. macrodisca), family Malpighiaceae, native to Peru. Known as Black Ayahuasca or Black Caapi. This species came to prominence initially after being sold by a Peruvian vendor called ‘Kiwiboancaya’ as Diplopterys cabrerana seeds. Some internet sites report that this species contains both tryptamines and beta carbolines. Others claim that there have been no beta carbolines found at all. I have used a UV light on both stems and leaves of this species and no fluorenscence was observed (this can indicate harmala alkaloids). The stem and leaves oxidise when cut, turning black, which would lend itself to the indigenous classification of ‘black ayahuasca’ (if this is an accurate indigenous classification at all or merely a marketing tool).

The flavours are woody, cherry, minty, sweet, and lemony. It’s best used for those dealing with insomnia, depression, stress, and anxiety. The first mushroom flush will produce medium sized mushrooms. In later flushes they might grow very large. It is a very robust mushroom with big, massive stems.

Cap: 50+ mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity. Reddish cinnamon brown maturing to golden brown to light yellow. Surface dry with pronounced and persistent remnants of universal veil on cap (spots). Flesh white soon bruising bluish green.

Stem: 125+ mm in length, yellowish. Flesh bruising bluish green where injured. Persistent membranous annulus (ring) from partial veil that becomes dusted with purple brown spores at maturity.

Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becoming nearly black in maturity.

Spores: Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia
