Psychotria cv. – Superior Cultivars 10g
$45.00
Psychotria viridis and Psychotria carthagenensis are used in the traditional psychoactive medicine Ayahuasca; a brew of Banisteriopsis caapi (occasionally alone but most often with Psychotria viridis or other DMT containing plants such as Diplopterys cabrerana) as the base and other plants are sometimes added, depending on the problems and conditions of the patient that need to be examined.
Psychotria viridis contains dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a psychoactive substance found across the plant kingdom in many family, genera and thousands of species (large numbers of Australian Acacia species and other natives contain DMT), often only as trace amounts.
For many years I have been breeding new cultivars of Psychotria, after first creating an interspecific hybrid between Psychotria viridis and Psychotria carthagenensis (cv. Nexus). These hybrids have now been legally analysed in a research project, funded by Herbalistics, leading to the discovery of a number of higher alkaloid cultivars. We are now in the process of propagating 20 of these hybrids for sale and will replace the old hybrid pages with this simple single page.

Alicia anisopetala – Black Ayahuasca 10g
Alicia anisopetala (or possibly A. macrodisca), family Malpighiaceae, native to Peru. Known as Black Ayahuasca or Black Caapi. This species came to prominence initially after being sold by a Peruvian vendor called ‘Kiwiboancaya’ as Diplopterys cabrerana seeds. Some internet sites report that this species contains both tryptamines and beta carbolines. Others claim that there have been no beta carbolines found at all. I have used a UV light on both stems and leaves of this species and no fluorenscence was observed (this can indicate harmala alkaloids). The stem and leaves oxidise when cut, turning black, which would lend itself to the indigenous classification of ‘black ayahuasca’ (if this is an accurate indigenous classification at all or merely a marketing tool).

Banisteriopsis Caapi Red Vine Powder – “The Vine of Souls”
Banisteriopsis caapi, often revered as the “Vine of Souls,” is a sacred plant native to the Amazon rainforest. This legendary vine is the primary ingredient in the ancient ceremonial brew known as Ayahuasca (also called Yagé or Yajé) and is also widely utilized in Changa blends.
Botanical Classification:
-
Family: Malpighiaceae
-
Genus: Banisteriopsis
-
Species: caapi, inebrians
Cultural & Ceremonial Significance
For centuries, indigenous communities throughout the Amazon Basin—and isolated regions of Colombia and Ecuador—have used Banisteriopsis caapi in spiritual rituals. This powerful forest liana is considered a conduit to the divine, used in ceremonies to access higher consciousness, healing, and connection to ancestral realms.
Traditional Preparation
Traditionally, segments of the vine are pounded and simmered with complementary plants like Psychotria viridis (Chacruna) or Diplopterys cabrerana (Chaliponga/Chagropanga) to prepare the Ayahuasca brew. In some cultures, cold water infusions of the vine alone are also used.
Our Red Caapi Vine Powder is finely milled for ease of botanical study and comes from ethically sourced, mature vines harvested with care and respect for the environment.
